A Happy Christmas and

Prosperous New Year to

All

The Master and soloist accompanied by

colleagues and members of the Worshipful

Company of Firefighters attend the annual

carol service at St Mary-le-Bow

AMessage from Our Master - Geoff Morgan

To all Freemen and Liverymen

On behalf of the Wardens and Court of

The Worshipful Company of Firefighters, I would very

much like to wish you and your family a peaceful , happy

and healthy Christmas and New Year

The church of St Mary-le-Bow was completely destroyed in the Great Fire of

London in 1666. Its successor was built by Wren between 1670 and 1683. At

almost £15,645 it was then the most expensive but also the most important

Wren church after St Paul’s Cathedral. Bow bells are probably the most

famous in the world and for many hundreds of years have been woven into the

folklore of the City of London. In 1392 Dick Whittington heard Bow bells call

him back to London to become Lord Mayor; to be born within the sound of

Bow bells was the sign of a true Londoner or Cockney; and Bow bell's author-

ity ends the medieval nursery rhyme Oranges and Lemons, 'I do not know says

the Great Bell of Bow'.

Firefighters Annual Carol Service

Members of the Company, their family, friends and guests attended

the annual Festival of Christmas Carols at the church of St. Mary-

le-Bow, Cheapside, London EC2 on Friday 11

th

December.

The Service was a time for all members with their family and

friends to celebrate the advent of Christmas together with familiar

carols, music and readings. Highlights of the service were solos

from the American opera singer Lauren Goldsmith.

Following the Carol Service, members of the congregation were

invited to remain in the church to share light refreshment and good

company.
