confidence benefits children, who have been severely
burned, get from attendance at the summer camps. It’s
frightening to think that up to 15 children can be burned
each day, mainly due to accidents in the home. Guests
also heard first hand from a burns survivor and attendee
at the camp, who spoke eloquently about the benefits he
obtained to his self confidence from attending the camp.
Frank David, Chairman of the Charitable Trust, who,
along with the Master and Past Master Michael Harper,
had attended the camp itself to see its work, spoke of how
he felt that this had been one of the most deserving
causes he had witnessed for the funds of the Charitable
Trust.
A group of singers from the Tring Performing Arts School
gave some great renditions of a number of songs from
well known musicals ending with, on this notable date,
patriotically leading the company in the singing of “Land
of Hope and Glory”, with much flag waving. A draw was
made for a Jeroboam of fine claret generously donated by
the caterers Harbour and Jones and Ken Barnes held an
auction for Wimbledon semi-final tickets, kindly donated
by Judith Harper.
Michael Harper thanked all those responsible for the
organisation of the evening, particularly Steve Neville and
to Catlin for their generous sponsorship to these
worthwhile causes. He hoped that other corporate
sponsors would be encouraged to come forward. Peter
Holland concluded the evening reminding guests of the
City Fire lecture next April on the subject of Fire and
Timber structures and with an invitation to a stirrup cup.
