Pleased to Meet You ?

George Bush was delighted when

some years ago the Firefighters’

Company alighted (no pun

intended) upon St Mary-le-Bow

for its church; this turned out to

be especially appropriate since

Watling Street – the site of the

original Massey-Shaw Fire

Station - is now in the parish.

He was even more pleased when

asked to succeed David Rhodes as Chaplain and hopes that

over time the members of the Company will feel confident

in him, not only for Company celebrations and services but

also for any other way in which he may be useful to

individuals and family members.

George has been Rector of St Mary-le-Bow for eight years,

after a ministry which since 1985 has taken him to inner

city Leeds, Cambridge University and London’s East End.

George is much absorbed in St Mary-le-Bow’s concern to

promote a reasonable faith and dialogue between the

church and the world and has lately become Chair of a

charitable company –

Arcubus -

seeking to spread financial

services to poor communities in Mozambique and

Tanzania.
