The Fire Lecture 2012
Fire: Cost & Consequence
ST FLORIAN'S
DAY AND
PARTNERS’
LUNCH
This event was held at the Insurance Hall on
Wednesday 30th May, in partnership with BRE
Global Ltd, and was a resounding success for the
Firefighters' Company.
Following a warm welcome by The Master, Peter
Cowland, Alderman Sir Robert Finch, the
Representative Lord Mayor, gave an opening
address, followed by Past Master Jeremy Beech,
who introduced the speakers – Carol Atkinson
and Dr Debbie Smith for BRE, Nick Starling for
ABI, Lee Howell for CFOA, James Landale,
Deputy Political Editor at BBC News, who
managed the presentations and the open forum;
and guests.
An almost capacity audience enjoyed the
presentations and posed challenging questions of
the speakers and Sir Ken Knight, HM
Government's Chief Fire & Rescue Adviser, who
joined the speakers at an open forum which
followed. Bob Neil MP, the Fire Minister at the
Department of Communities & Local
Government gave an enthusiastic closing address.
Following a presentation of gifts the Master
invited the speakers, guests and members of the
audience to join him and the Wardens for a buffet
reception before the close.

be a very social occasion.
The photo below shows new Master, Michael
Harper and his wife Judith at the recent Swan-
Upping event held at Henley-on -Thames on 18th
July. This was organised for the WCoFF
members by Alan Wood. Although the ceremony
of Swan-Upping, organised by two of the City
Livery companies, had to be cancelled due to fast
river rates, an enjoyable time was had by all
anyway with a lovely trip on the river Thames.”
The St Florian's Day and Partners’ lunch was held
on 4th May at Il Bordello's Italian restaurant in
Wapping. The food was superb and the company
jovial.
The photographs below (kindly
identified by Ron Murray) relate to
those who declared their freedom
and were clothed in the Company's
livery on the 16th July 2012 Court
luncheon and Freedom and Clothing
Ceremony.
