Visit to St Paul's
Firefighters’ Memorial Trust and Wreath
Laying Ceremony
Annual City Dinner Invitation
An event is being organised by Sentinels Tony
Skinner and Donald Bond on behalf of the Events
Committee inviting members to a guided tour of
St Paul's Cathedral on Monday 20th August
Sir Christopher Wren's great masterpiece was
built three hundred years ago and is one of the
world's great buildings. It is the fifth cathedral to
stand on the hill that dominates the ancient City
of London, constantly reminding this commercial
centre of the spiritual dimension of life.
The present Cathedral was built between 1675
and 1710. St. Paul's has celebrated many
important events; such as the Queen's Diamond
Jubilee, the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady
Diana, and the funerals of Nelson, Wellington and
Churchill.
The programme for the day will start on the
main steps of the Cathedral at 10.00am
Liveryman Donald Bond will meet those
participating and will be responsible for the visit.
A tour of the Cathedral will follow which should
take about one and a half hours.
A notice from the Memorial Trust advising of a
change of date to Sunday 9th September for the
Firefighters’ Memorial Trust Service and Wreath
Laying Ceremony.
The Service will be held at The Priory Church of
St Bartholomew the Great. Those wishing to
attend should take their seats by 1145hrs. After
the Service, at about 13.00 hours, the bands
standards and attendees will parade to the
Firefighters’ Memorial.
An invitation is extended to the 2012 Annual City
Dinner hosted by Past Master Sir Ken Knight,
Chief Fire and Rescue Adviser to be held at the
City HQ of Catlin Insurance Company Ltd, on
Tuesday 13th November 2012 – 6-30 start,
carriages at 10pm.
In addition to enjoying superb views across the
City and the excellent food and wine provided
through the generous hospitality of Catlin, our
primary objective is to raise money for The
Worshipful Company of Firefighters Charitable
Trust and for Youth and Education and Training
Programmes associated with the Fire Service. All
the proceeds will be devoted to these two
worthy charitable objectives.
Places can be reserved to join Sir Ken and a host
of City and Fire Service/Industry VIP guests and
are set at £100 each (VAT does not apply
because it is a charitable event). You are invited
to come on your own, bring guests or make up a
round table of up to 10 places. Anyone
interested should contact Tony Skinner.
