It was an overcast and damp day, with an early
start after our excellent previous evening at the
Girdlers’ Hall. The Firefighters, led by the Master,
ignored the weather, played very well and took
the honours.
The Master, Mike Harper began the day as the
reigning champion Firefighter, and looked to be
heading for a second consecutive win, scoring an
excellent 37 points. He was however overtaken
by recently retired Peter Holland who is clearly
spending a lot of time on the golf course, and
who came in with 38 points. That sort of score is
normally the domain of golfing legend John
Sherrington, the only known retired Fire Officer
with a legitimate handicap!
Everyone enjoyed the event, despite heavy
clouds and occasional drizzle. As always the
hospitality and fellowship was excellent. The late
change of date affected overall numbers, but it
was nevertheless an excellent day on a fine
course.
Hosted by Sir Ken Knight CBE QFSM DL.
