“Le
St
Julien”
62/63
Long
Lane,
London
EC1
12.30pm Thursday 7
June 2007
Following
last
year’s
successful
lunch
at Le
St
Julien, our Master
and Wardens
have decided
to
repeat
the
function
again
this
year. Those who
attended
in 2006 will
recall
the
fine,
French
inspired
food
and
the
very
friendly
staff,
all
providing
a
very
convivial
atmosphere.
Le
Saint
Julien's
has
a
reputation
as
a
cosy
spot
that delivers
the
traditional
French
thing with
charm
and warmth.
It pulls out
all
the brasserie
stops
- mirrors,
gilt
finishes,
elegant period
lighting,
traditional wooden bar
and
French
waiters
all
smartly dressed
in black
aprons. This
is
an opportunity
to
invite our partners
to
an
informal
event with
time
to mingle prior
to
lunch
and,
indeed,
après.
Our Master will be
inviting
those widows who
have
lost
their partners
in previous
years
and
they will be our
guests
for
the
lunch. With
this
in
mind,
the
charge,
inclusive of
a
half bottle of wine
per person
and
a
three
course menu, will be £40.
Other drinks will be
available
at
the
cash bar. We
hope
to
attract
sufficient
numbers
in order
to
exclusively
reserve
the
restaurant.
Dress
code
will be
suits/jackets
and
ties
and
the
equivalent
form of dress
for partners.
A booking
form
has
already been
circulated
and
I
would be
grateful
if
you
could
return
the
same,
along with
your menu
choice
and
a
cheque
(£40
per person) made payable
to
'The Worshipful
Company of
Firefighters'
to me by Monday 21
May 2007.
During
the
last
two Court Meetings, membership
of
the Company was warmly
extended
to:
1 December
2006:
Frances Blois, Alan Woods, Robert
Farquhar, Michael Docherty, Ted Pearn
and Geoff
Turpin
Paul Bryant, Peter Moore
23 March
2007:
Kelly
Fairman
Karen Eves, Richard
Squire, Philip
Crisford, Elwyn Harker,
Ian Brown,
Jon Hall
and
Anthony
Ireland.
CAPTION CORNER
After due
consideration of
the
entries
for
the
Caption Corner Competition
that
appeared
in
Salamander No 8,
it was decided
that
the winning
entry was
from
John Norris,
the Company
Beadle, whose
short
and
succinct
entry was:
“Yes,
petrol
does make
it
go
better!”
