The Worshipful Company of Firefighters

Service, Fellowship, Harmony and Honour

On July 5th, shortly after Common Hall,

members gathered on board the MS Elizabethan

to celebrate 25 years of being a City Company.

Immediate Past Master Michael Harper and new

Master Beryl Jeffrey were present to welcome

members and their guests on board.

Entertainment was provided by a swing band and

singer and there were drinks and a fine buffet to

enjoy on a pleasant evening sailing the Thames.

Father of the Company and Founding Master,

Gerald Clarkson was unable to attend due to ill

health.

The Guild of Firefighters was formed in 1988 and

was recognised by the City on 13 June 1988 as it

started its journey towards Company and

ultimately full Livery status. On 13 June 1995 the

Guild fulfilled the first stage and was granted the

status of a City Company without Livery. On 23

October 2001 the City of London granted the

Company Livery status, when it became known

as The Worshipful Company of Firefighters.

Members and guests were able to buy some

special celebratory wine goblets to mark the

occasion. For those who couldn't make the

evening, there is an opportunity to buy these

glasses (see back page).

The Company has grown in strength since its

inception, supporting worthwhile charities and

making its mark in the City with events such as

the annual City Fire lecture. With a loyal core of

members, the future looks bright for the

Company, with hopes also to gain a future Royal

Charter.
