This year's annual Fire Lecture, hosted by The

Worshipful Company of Firefighters, is a debate

that examines the case for the installation of

sprinklers in all new homes. The debate will be

chaired by James Landale, Deputy Political Editor,

BBC News. James Shannon, President of the

National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) of

the USA, will propose the motion and Jonathan

O'Neill, Managing Director of the Fire Protection

Association (FPA) of the UK, will oppose.

CPD credits are available to members of the IFE,

EPS and the CII.

A discount is offered for members of the

Institution of Fire Engineers.

The lecture will be held on Tuesday 23rd April

2013, 6.30pm - 9.00pm at The Insurance Hall, 20

Aldermanbury, London EC2V 7GF.

We hope that present will be Sheriff Nigel

Pullman, City of London Corporation, Peter

Holland CBE OStJ QFSM FIFireE, Chief Fire &

Rescue Adviser and the immediate past Adviser

Sir Ken Knight CBE QFSM DL.

This is a wonderful occasion where members are

most welcome to bring wives, partners, family

and friends for this special evening at HQS

Wellington. The dinner is held in honour of Sir

Massey Shaw, the first Chief Fire Officer of the

Metropolitan Fire Brigade from 1861 until 1891

You and your guests will be able to enjoy a 3

course dinner with accompanying wines

prepared by “The Cook and The Butler” who

have catered most excellently for the Company

at many recent functions and were recently

awarded the franchise at this venue. There will

also be musical entertainment during the evening.

The historic ship Wellington is the last surviving

member of the Grimsby Class of sloops which

served the nation with such distinction in World

War Two. She has been moored on the Thames

since 1948 during which time she has been the

home of the Honourable Company of Master

Mariners, a City of London Livery Company.

Liveryman and Constable Tony Skinner is

organising a visit to the Tower of London on 2nd

March 2013. It is always an honour to be invited

by the Yeoman Warders of HM Fortress the

Tower of London to witness the Ceremony of

the Keys, a ceremony that has been held every

evening at the stroke of 10pm for hundreds of

years, whether it be peacetime or during times of

war.

Normally, there is a short external guided

commentary tour of the grounds and sights

before our party is invited into the Yeoman

Warders’ Club for some supper and drinks. At

about 9.30pm our group will go to witness The

Ceremony of the Keys which will be carried out

by the Yeoman Warders and the resident guard.
