Pie and a Pint - Ye Olde Watling
Thursday 24th August 2023
On Thursday 24th August the Master, Graham Woodhouse, organised an informal 'Pie & a Pint' at Ye Olde Watling in, believe it or not, Watling Street! Twelve members attended, including our immediate Past Master, Steve Saunders, and the Assistant Clerk, Geoff Fall.
We all had a most enjoyable day putting the world to rights with a few beers and an excellent lunch. Our thanks to the Master, Graham Woodhouse, for organising this event. We look forward to the next one!

‘Ashes to Ashes’ Lambeth Walk
Saturday 16th September 2023
A delightful Indian Summer tour of Lambeth with qualified Lambeth Guide Dave Cannell started under the big clock at Waterloo Station (very romantic). It encompassed the Necropolis Station in Westminster Bridge Road, Archbishop’s Park, the Garden Museum in St. Mary- at-Lambeth, Lambeth Palace, the London Fire Brigade Memorial Hall at the old LFB HQ at 8, Albert Embankment, SE1 7SP. LFB's Grade II listed Memorial Hall, part of the LFB's Headquarters, opened in 1937. The Hall is rarely seen by the public & contains stunning large memorials by Gilbert Bayes commemorating firefighters lost protecting London.
Part of the old LFB Headquarters building at 8 Albert Embankment which was opened on Wednesday 21 July 1937 by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the Memorial Hall contains two original memorials by Gilbert Bayes, with further memorials added in the 20th century. The first commemorates the establishment of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade in 1865, with a marble relief by Gilbert Bayes dated 1938 depicting an 18th century firefighting scene.
