Opening Ceremony of the New Tower Lifeboat Station Friday 23rd June 2023
The Worshipful Company of Firefighters Charitable Trust, a charitable incorporated organisation, registered charity (No. 1182241) in England and Wales has contributed to funding this new Tower Lifeboat Station. The Ceremony was attended by Stephen Sanders (Immediate Past Master), Upper Warden Prof. David Holt and Liveryman Anne Isaacs. Her report, below:
On a pleasant sunny Friday morning we, together with other guests, gathered on Butler’s Wharf Pier ready to board the Elizabethan for our journey down to the Tower Lifeboat Station. As well as the pleasant company, light refreshments and lunch was served before we arrived at the station. We watched the official opening ceremony whilst moored in front of the Tower Lifeboat Station.
The ceremony was opened by Frank Moxon, Chair of the City of London Committee. The station was handed to the RNLI by Captain Michael Hawthorn, Royal Navy, and Vice Chairman of the Royal Naval Club, which was accepted by Mark Dowie the RNLI Chief Executive, who then handed it to the care of Tower Lifeboat Station which was accepted by Kevin Maynard the Station Manager. The service was led by Revd Canon Thomas Woodhouse, with the official unveiling and naming followed by a few words from HRH The Duke of Kent.
