Welcome to the 3rd Edition of your New Newsletter
In this, a Special Aquatic Edition the spotlight, of serendipity, falls on all things Fireboat and Lifeboat – on the Thames at Lambeth and at the Tower and across the sea of time, on Dunkirk.
These are choppy waters for a Modern Livery Company like ours. Costs skyrocket and staying afloat and solvent is a challenge. Membership engagement and sustained growth and evolution may well be the way forward, to calmer, more temperate waters.
This edition celebrates the courage and endeavour of cutting-edge contemporary rescue mariners and riverine firefighters, as well as delving back in time to their predecessors – the fireboats that fought vast warehouse fires on the Thames and rescued desperate, stranded troops from Dunkirk.
As Remembrance Sunday hoves into view, our History & Heritage Section remembers past heroes, one of them a Liveryman of this Company, that gave their all during the dark days of the Blitz.
