The Worshipful Company of
Firefighters celebrate 30 years
since the formation of the Guild
of Firefighters.
The 13th June 2018 saw members
of the Company gather together
for a celebratory lunch at the Little
Ship Club in Dowgate.
Sir Clive Martin was a sponsoring
Alderman who helped to establish
the Company on its journey from
a Guild to a Livery Company of
the City of London with a Royal
Charter.
The
Guild of Firefighters was
formed in 1988 andwas recognised
by the City on 13th June 1988.
The first Court meeting took
place on 15th June 1988 at 140
Aldersgate Street EC1, formerly
the Headquarters of the London
Salvage Corps. On the 13th June
1995 theGuild fulfilled thefirst stage
of its journey and was granted the
status of a City Company without
Livery. On the 23rd October 2001
the City of London granted the
Company Livery Status, when it

became known as the Worshipful
Company of Firefighters. Finally,
our Royal Charter was granted
on 11th December 2013.
The Foundation Dinner for the
Guild was held on 14th July
1989, duly noted in The Times
Court and Social Section. A copy
of the menu card is pictured,
showing the original shield for the
Guild. It is interesting to note that,
of the guests shown attending
the Foundation Dinner, seven
attended the recent Celebratory
Lunch – our Founding Master
Gerry Clarkson, Senior Past
Master Jeremy Beech, and Past
Masters Ken Barnes, James
Blott, Martin Coffey, Frank David
and Sir Ken Knight.
