THE SALAMANDER | AUGUST 2016
CITY DINNER 2015
This was held on 11th November at the Caitlin
Group UK HQ. Following on from the success of
our 2014 dinner where we raised over £20,000
for youth causes, the focus of our 2015 City
Dinner was again on the work undertaken by
Fire Brigades across the country with regard to
youth education, training and support.
The WCoFF City Dinner was hailed by the
organising team to be the most successful to
date with over £30,000 raised for our Charitable
Trust YETI scheme.
With an impressive array of guests which
included three “Sirs”, a Dame, the City Police
Commissioner Adrian Leppard and LFB
Commissioner Ron Dobson, the evening
was hosted by The Governments Chief Fire
& Rescue Advisor Peter Holland CBE QFSM
FIFireE.
Making a surprise appearance was Scottish
rugby International Craig Chalmers who
conducted the auction with Past Master Bryan
Spearman. Following on from the success of
previous dinners, The Master and the Chair of
the Trustees Frank David were able to present
cheques totalling £30,000 to representatives
from LFB Cadets, The Burns Camp and Essex
Fire-Break Scheme.
Particularly moving was a tribute to the work
of the Essex Brigade from Mrs. Dee Anderson
whose daughter Katy attended a Firebreak
Course along with other children from the
Haven Hospice. Sadly Katy died not long after
she completed the Course but Dee wanted to
let the WCoFF and our guests know that the
money raised at the City Dinner and donated
by our Trustees brings boundless happiness
and opportunities to many young people like
Katy from so many different backgrounds.
