WCoFF Position of Clerk Vacancy

THE CLERK TO THE WORSHIPFUL OF COMPANY OF FIREFIGHTERS

The Worshipful Company of Firefighters (The Company), located in the City of London, is seeking the appointment of a new Clerk to follow the retirement of the existing incumbent scheduled for July 2022.

The Company is one of 32 Modern Companies in a total of 110 Livery Companies within the City of London based at the Wax Chandlers’ Hall, Gresham Street, London EC2V 7AD and has 200+ Liverymen and Freemen.

The Company is seeking applications from a broad range of applicants and the successful candidate must be of impeccable character, with exceptional interpersonal, organisational, and administrative skills, to deliver a first-class service as the manager of the “Office of the Clerk”. Responsibility includes management of voluntary staff leading on Financial, and Information Technology matters and providing assistance with organising and delivering a range of ceremonial, formal and informal functions so attention to detail will be important. An Assistant Clerk, (also the Finance Manager), is available to assist with the Clerk’s duties and responsibilities by mutual agreement. Therefore, The Clerk as Chief Operating Officer will be integral to the running of the Company and its structure as well as supporting the Master, Wardens, Chairs of Standing Committees, and the Charitable Trust in delivering their functions. Knowledge of the Livery Movement, City of London, and its Corporation would be considered an advantage.

A combination of home and office working is available, with appropriate equipment provided, covering a flexible average of 35 hours per week with 20 days leave per calendar year plus Statutory Holidays. The starting salary is £34,000 which is subject to Annual Review with increments based upon performance appraisal. An employer contribution of 5% through an approved Pension Scheme will be offered to the successful candidate.

Successful applicants will be asked to attend an informal lunch to meet Senior Members of the Company a week before being invited for interview and must in their application give details of three referees, including the current or immediate last employer, which will be taken up after interview of the preferred candidate before any offer of employment is made. It is desirable that the new appointment will take effect in April / May 2022 so that a satisfactory hand-over can be achieved.

A person specification, role description and contract of employment are available upon request. All applications and supporting documentation must be by electronic means only and submitted to clerk@wcoff.org. Informal dialogue for applicants who wish to take up this offer is available with the current Master or Upper Warden via the above contact.

Applications close on Tuesday 15th March 2022 at 5pm and late submissions will not be accepted.
