The Firefighters Welcome New Borough Commander For The City

Jim Flin has been installed as the new Borough Commander for the City of London at Dowgate Fire Station. Jim’s official title is Fire Engineer & Borough Commander, since he will be splitting his time between Brigade Headquarters and Dowgate Fire Station. Jim has a BEng (Hons) degree and is an Associate of the Institute of Fire Engineers. He is the only operational serving Fire Engineer in the London Fire Brigade.

Jim joined the LFB in 1994, serving at Ilford. He has served mainly in the East of London, at one time being leading hand to our own Liveryman Andy Phillips at Barking, but he has also worked at Chelsea and with the Fire Safety Regulation Team for Southwark and Lambeth.

Jim is pictured in the appliance room at Dowgate. It’s a busy station, so the pump in the background when I visited is actually Soho’s, on standby.

We wish Jim well in his new post and hope that he will be able to find time to join us at some of our City events.
