The inaugural National Fire Fighter Games

The inaugural National Fire Fighter Games took place at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre and was  organised by the London Fire Brigade, Essex Fire and Rescue Service and supported by the Worshipful Company.

I attended the event with the Massey Shaw Education Trust to promote the newly formed Marine Fire Cadet Unit which also is supported by the Worship Company and the Trust. The Games were attended by Fire Brigade cadets from across the country, with the majority of the cadets camping on site over the weekend .

The Games highlighted the knowledge, skills and team-working ethos which the Fire Cadets learn during their time with their units. On Saturday the heats for the various competitions were held alongside the community safety exhibition in the sports hall arena. Visitor numbers were quite small, but we had some interest in The Marine Unit from the young people which was encouraging.  On the Sunday, the weather became windy and we spent some time keeping our gazebo from disappearing into the main arena. Visitor numbers improved and we were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Bromley and her Deputy to our stand. The Deputy Mayor, was Mr David Cartwright , Past Master of the Worshipful Company and my Officer in charge when I joined the LFB.

Councillor Kim Botting, the Mayor, was interested in the opportunities that Fire Cadets offered to young people of all backgrounds and wished the Marine Unit every success in the future.

The Fire Fighter Games was a great success and we look forward to attending further events in the future.
