THE SALAMANDER | DECEMBER 2017
F
rom the Clerk
Steven Tamcken
May I welcome you all to
the 3rd instalment of the
New Salamander, and hope
that you are enjoying the
information, news and reports
that it contains.
As you can see it has been
another busy period for the
Company and also for the
new Master and Mistress
Firefighter, with Common Hall,
Installation of the new Sheriff’s,
the Lord Mayor’s Show, the
Lord Mayor’s Banquet to name
but a few. Company-wise, we
are now entering a new phase,
in that the Company is in the
process of re-locating – with
our friends from the Insurance
Hall, to new premises, which
is in the final throws of being
completed. The planned move
to wherever it may be will take
place most probably late spring
or early summer next year,
so please keep an eye out for
more information as it becomes
available.
The St. Florian’s Banquet was a
huge success, and may I thank
all the members who attended
and hopefully all will wish to
come to the next Major dinner
which is the Massey Shaw
Dinner on the 21st March 2017.
But before that there are several
other events that ALL members
of the Company are invited to
attend, these include the Carol
Service, 15th December @ St.
Mary Le Bow; the Pancake Day
Races @ Guildhall Yard, 13
February 2018, (which thanks
to the Immediate Past Master,
Bruce Hoad, for his sterling
effort, allows for a full team
to enter – so I am looking for
volunteers for the team!); and
the United Guilds Service at St
Pauls in March (details to be
finalised).
There is one Dinner, however,
exclusively for the Liverymen
of the Company in the year,
and this is on the 23rd January
2018, please put this in your
diary now, and let me know if
you do wish to attend as places
are VERY LIMITED!
Moving onwards, the Company
membership stands at OVER
200, but has room for more
members. If you believe that
you may know someone who
would enjoy being a member,
just like yourselves, then speak
with them and let me know their
names and the Membership
Committee and myself will
arrange a Meet The Firefighters
event in March next year.
On our Affiliated ATC Squadron
2433 (Manston and Ramsgate),
they were unlucky in their
attempt to become the Top
large Squadron in the Country,
I am sure that the OC Flight
Lieutenant Geoff will have them
back and ready for another
shot in a year or two. But I am
sure that I speak for the whole
Company when I say well done
to all the cadets for all their hard
work.
The Company’s Charitable
arm has been busy throughout
the year, as you will have
read elsewhere, but please
remember, that they can only
“do good” on behalf of the
Company, if you “do good” by
donating to the Trust fund. The
more of the membership that
donate, the more the Company
can help those less fortunate
than ourselves.
As always, I would like to thank
the team that support me here
in the back office to provide the
service to you all, the Beadle,
the Sentinels and of course my
Assistant Clerk, none of whom
I could have managed without.
I must give a special mention to
Liveryman Colin Simpson, for
all the hard work that he does
on my behalf on the IT side of
the office; the website, taking of
Company photos at events and
so much more. Also to Alistair
Milner, Alan Mabbutt, Nicole
Hoffmann, Barry Sargent and
Richard Bratton for their help
and assistance at the LMS this
year, along with the Master and
Wardens.
Finally, may I inform you that
the office will be closed from
the 22nd December 2017 and
re-open on 2nd January 2018.
Therefore, can I on behalf of the
Company and all my team, wish
you all a Very Happy Festive
Period and also a Happy,
Healthy and prosperous New
Year.
As always, I sign off with
the following words: It is an
HONOUR to be of SERVICE
to you, I thank you for your
FELLOWSHIP, and look forward
to another year of HARMONY
and fun working with you all.
