  THE SALAMANDER November 2021
REPORT FROM THE CHARITABLE TRUST
Chair Graham Maltby
The Charitable Trust has remained active over the last eighteen months throughout the period of the Coronavirus albeit the activity as you would expect has been lower than usual.
In this article a selection of activities are published.
1. Re-election to the Board of Trustees
In accordance with the Charitable Trust Constitution in October 2020, ESCB approved (on behalf of the normal Court process) the re- election for a final three years of Jeremy Beech CBE, QFSM, SBStJ, Colin Livett BEM and Ron Murray as Trustees from September 2020 to August 2023 until they are required to retire for a minimum period of 12 months.
At the Trustee Board Meeting on Tuesday 5th October 2021 the Board endorsed that Maurice Heaster and Tom Johnson be re-electedtotheBoardforafinal three years from September 2021 to August 2024. This now
Howard Myers has sadly decided to retire from the Trustee Board and an internal advert from Liverymen will shortly be issued seeking applications for
a replacement Trustee serving immediately from September 2021-August 2024, plus a list
of other suitable candidates seeking to become a Trustee up until August 2024. Any new Trustee appointment will be subject to endorsement by the • Trustee Board and approval by Court. Suitable candidates will need to conform to the criteria as detailed by the Charities • Commission and the Trustee Board as in the advert.
2. Financial Position and Grant Awards
The financial position of the Trust for the period from 1st August 2020-30th September • 2021, which will be subject
to financial examination by a qualified accountant at no cost to the Charity before being lodged with Charities Commission along with the Trustees Annual Report is summarised as follows:
• Income- £19,305 (Charitable Giving, On-Line Fire Lecture, Gift-Aid from Charitable Giving and Donations with a Gift-Aid Declaration, Donations not Gift-Aided and Dividends from Capital Investments).
• Expenditure- £10,541 • (Audit by Magee Gammon 2019-20, Final Legal Fees
All matters including bank accounts associated with the old Charity are now closed and concluded. There was no Charity Dinner held in 2020 nor will there be in 2021 with an estimated loss of income of £37,000 across both years. However this should be balanced against the low number of grant applications and awards during this period. Bearing in mind that every Member of the Company who signs a declaration to join, gives a commitment to support the Charitable Trust, worryingly only 60 out of 210 members donate to the Trust with an income (less Gift- Aid) of £6,900 under the GoCardless system. This is £2,700 under the previous system and needs to be addressed in the future at an appropriate time if the Trust is to be able maintain its objectives. It is also £1,000 less than the Dividends from the Capital Investment. There was no cross-charge for services between the Company and Trust for the

• Income over Expenditure - £8,764.
• Balances- Unrestricted Funds £99,718 and Capital Investment £417,403.
