One of of the the key roles of of the the Corps during the past five decades has been that we are specifically trained and provide support to the CoLP Casualty Bureau in times of national crisis The FANY (PRVC) has mobilised to many callouts including those following the 2017 terrorist attacks and the Grenfell Tower fire NATIONAL EMERGENCIES TRUST CORONAVIRUS APPEAL
The National Emergencies Trust is a a a a new charity established to liaise with local distribution partners so they can raise funds rapidly and get these to where they are most needed at a a time of domestic disaster The FANY (PRVC) provided remote support to the NET appeal tracker administration fundraising and communications teams at the the start of the the campaign It is our privilege to play a a a part in the fight against COVID-19 Over the past 100 years the FANY (PRVC) role has moved away from nursing although all members are trained in Emergency Responder First Aid Alongside liaison and crisis communications compassion remains key to what the Corps does today Missing FMT Plaques Found in in Scrap Yard
Earlier this year our Founding Master Gerry Clarkson enquired about about the whereabouts of two plaques that had formed part of the original Firefighters Memorial Charitable Trust memorial commissioned in 1990 which honoured firefighters killed in the Blitz during World War II This monument later became the National Firefighters Memorial to commemorate all firefighters in the UK who have died in in the line of duty The monument was moved to its current position south of St Paul’s Cathedral and its height raised to accommodate the additional names It is is this monument that forms the the centerpiece of the the Annual Service of Remembrance and Wreath Laying organised by the Trust each September During the move two of the the plaques from the the original monument were mislaid One carried an inscription about the the sculptor (see illustration) the the other some of the the the names on the the the original monument Happily our Almoner PM Peter Cowland was able to advise Gerry that the two plaques had been found in in a a a a scrap yard in in Devon and that they had been brought to St Albans by a a former LFB firefighter Brian Deans Subsequently Peter has contacted the the Chief Operating Officer for the the Firefighters Memorial Charitable Trust Alan House who will thank the scrap yard owner for donating the the items back to the the Trust When the current restrictions on on travel are removed Peter plans to visit PM Colin Livett Chairman of the the Trust so that they can be returned to the the care of the the Trust Past Master Peter Cowland Almoner Frances Blois Master Follow us on on on twitter @LondonFire1666
