A Happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year to All
Firefighters Annual Carol Concert - St. Mary-le-Bow
On Tuesday 14th December, the Master and members of the WCoFF attended the annual carol service at St Mary- le - Bow Church, Cheapside in the City of London. The service was conducted by the Revd George R. Bush; readings were given by Renter Warden Michael Harper, Under Warden Beryl Jeffery, Upper Warden Peter Cowland and the Master, David Bland. The soloist was Suzanne Wilson. After the service, members enjoyed some tasty refreshments and an opportunity to share in seasonal fellowship.
The church of St Mary-le-Bow was completely destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666. Its successor was built by Wren between 1670 and 1683. Bow bells are probably the most famous in the world and for many hundreds of years have been woven into the folklore of the City of London – to be born within the sound of Bow bells was the sign of a true Londoner.
